It annoys me that I have to edit a my website files locally, then uploaded them to my webserver via an app like WinSCP or FileZilla. I just want to edit the files as if they were locally on my computer. I mean, I have scheduled backups of my site and pull them down locally so I do not need two copies of files locally and on my webserver. In Ubuntu, its simple go to Places - Connect to Server.. and bam. On a Mac, install macFUSE + SSHFS and done. So after a little searching, I found a set of FREE tools that will do just what Ubuntu and Mac will do in Windows (blah!).

FUSE for Windows

All you need to do is download and install these two apps, DokanLibrary + SSHFS. Once its installed run DokanSSHFS. Enter a name of your connection, your host, user credentials which can either be by password or shared key. For my webserver its username and password. Next select your root directory, mine is
/home/basher/
. Other servers, for example, may be
/www/
or
/var/www/
. Finally, choose a drive letter you would like to mount to. Now click ‘Save’ and then ‘Connect’

Within seconds you’ll see a system tray icon and a new drive N:\ that can be accessed just like a locally mapped drive. If you don’t see the drive in Explorer, simply do a Start - Run - N:\ and hit Enter. This is huge and such a time saver for me. I hope it helps others out there and its FREE!

Andrew Nichols, contributer for 9Marks and parenting teacher at Capitol Hill Baptist Church, has written a three part article on the purpose of the family and how God has pictured it around himself.

I will not attempt here a complete theology of the family, but I think we can establish this much: Scripture teaches that a primary purpose of the family is nothing less presenting the whole world with a series of three images—God’s triune nature, the gospel, and the church. In the family, God has embedded pictures of himself, his plan of salvation, and his redeemed people.

Which means the family is precious! It’s not just precious to young couples with children, it’s precious to the entire church. To Satan. To God. And to you, pastor?

I have not made it through all of it yet, but I wanted to get this out for people to digest. The family can be in the forefront for all of us but how often we need more teaching, emersed by scripture and theology, on God’s vision for family. Andrew states,

As the father of four and as the principal teacher of Capitol Hill Baptist Church’s class on parenting, I have many opportunities to speak with young parents about raising children. And how desperately we all need practical wisdom! At the same time, I’ve become convinced that we also need something more: we need a sharper biblical vision for the purpose of the family. Why has God created the family? Why does Satan spend his time attacking it? What vision for the family should fathers present to their wives and children? And what should pastors teach their churches?
