ADV Ride Reports
Below I have linked to many ADVrider.com Inmate ride reports that I’ve read and I have enjoyed and gained great knowledge from all of these. I’ve tried to keep them in some sort of order to help me remember whats what!
WR250R Reports
Since the Yamaha WR250R released in 2008, many riders won’t even look at this bike because “its only a 250″. Well here are just a few epic ride reports that will turn the opinions of this “little 250″ into one of a great adventure bike!
“In the parking lot of a cheap motel at 5 in the morning we reassembled it, packed all my luggage on and, for the first time (discounting the two times I tried to ride down an icy street for 50ft) I rode my WRR. I headed south to my friend in Texas, where we made some racks and sorted the whole of it out. On Jan 17, 2010 I crossed the border to Mexico, and kept going until I made it to Ushuaia, the southern-most city in the world, on the southern tip of South America. I then turned around and went back up, crossing every country in South America.”

skierd – How I spent my summer vacation, or 6000 miles on a WR250R
“Its been a long time since I had a voluntary vacation from work and school, 10 years this summer to be exact. I had been planning a long road trip off and on for the last few years, but always ended up having to cancel due to lack of job, lack of money, or lack of suitable vehicle. This year, no such excuses. So grab some popcorn, pour yourself a drink, and settle in.”
“Me and Randy rode about 1,700 miles along the border of New Mexico and Arizona border. There are quite a few places I’ve been dreaming about that we got to visit on this ride. I got to put my new Yamaha WR250R to it’s test as a full on adventure bike. The weather was awesome as we rode in freezing temps sometimes with rain, snow, sleet and glazed black ice.”

BigDog $ DingWedds – Alaska Trip (in progress)
“Ok, so not to wax too philosophically, but I was awestruck. I started thinking hard then about why I was out here and the purpose of this ride. Pop and I had traveled around together before, but never just him and me alone for a long period. Growing up in different places we had to cram some of our Dad-Son time into weekend jaunts to the amusement park or a quick visit to a museum. Don’t get me wrong, now, those times were good, but this was suddenly different. We talked quietly about how this was different looking than what we were used to seeing. It shocked our senses and gave us a moment to share that I can’t quite describe…it was a blessing to have.”
Emerson.Biguns – To The Bottom Of Ongtupqa And Back…
“The big picture – Leave Tucson on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 27th and make our way to northwest Arizona and the bottom of the Grand Canyon and then back to Tucson using as much dirt as possible. We figured it would take five or six days and we had up to seven, just in case.”
“I tried to stay home….really, I did. I clocked nearly one month of domestic duty after the amazing “Dragon Hunt” on my WRR, before wandering again. But this wasn’t my fault…. KLR Monty (from Texas) started bugging me to go ride Colorado. And then the wife starts dropping some encouraging hints like: “you should go….and the farther, the better”. Sounded like a Plan!”
10Cup – Continental Divide Ride August 2009
“You know I almost forgot about the bike being a 250, it just does what you want and only might lack a little on the interstate if you want to run 75 all day loaded down. Though I did that for hours by drafting. The bike never skipped a beat and is rock solid dependable. I rode this little bike almost 3,800 miles on this trip and it never once put me on the ground either. “

25,000 Miles with Luke & Nick – Cape Agulhas, South Africa to Nordkapp, Norway
“Those of you who know me know that it is my tendency to take on more than I can handle. I have done it time and time again, from buying a fishing boat sight unseen and almost sinking it TWICE, to signing a contract to buy a house only to lose it back to the owner. Then there were the times that I tried to run a convenience store out of my dorm, walk around Houghton lake selling “Lake Rakes” and bring my 1988 Jetta back from the dead. All were failures. I always want to succeed, but in fact I fail a lot.”
Larryboy – I would sell my soul to feel this passion
“Here I go again
Here we go again
You will never know
What you could have known
No matter where this takes me
No matter what this takes of me
I can see the end
I can’t change the end
but, I understand
I will understand that,
No matter where this takes me
No matter what this takes of me
It’s better than missing these moments with you
No matter where this takes me
No matter what this takes of me
It’s better than missing these moments with you”
Hodakaguy – And then there were four…..Oregon outback
“Fast forward to 8-28-09 and there are 6 of us ready to head out on a 10 day adventure. We had all ridden from Walla Walla to Tollgate OR several times so it was decided to start the trip at Tollgate and head south from there. We would trailer the bikes to the start to save the tires, my father would pick us up in Denio NV when we were done. We’ve all spent the last month going over the bikes and getting our gear all set to go.”
“I’m home. After four months, 20,000 miles, 43 states, 18 National parks, 0 speeding tickets, 6 new lbs. of body fat, 50+ new friends and 1 moustache tattoo, I am finally back in Los Angeles. Thank you to all my friends for the support and words of encouragement.”
Nicomama – Solo Chick livin’ a Dream: North Rim Grand Canyon loop Via Sedona
“Notice the river through the window. Wow, the brilliant and vivid colors, the scope and expansiveness, the timelessness. It makes everything else pale in comparison. What bloody economy? It really puts things in perspective. Our lifespans are just blips on the timeline. Are we doing what we love and with passion? Or, are we just going through the motions of our daily routines. I can really say that I’m doing what I love. And, this adventure is proving to me that I need more of them to fill my soul.”
