Idaho 2010 : “The Ride Report”

Idaho 2010 : “The Ride Report”

With our bellies full, we headed northwest on Hwy 89 following the Snake River.  This is a beautiful ride, the road is perched high above the river so you have a bird’s eye view of the rafting going on in the river.  Looked like a ton of fun!

Leaving Alpine, we were around 5,700 ft and climbing…. about 50 miles later we had visual on probably the most beautiful mountain range this side of heaven, the Grand Tetons.

This is the first time I’ve ever seen real mountains… I never traveled much growing up.  A trip to Florida was about it.  I guess that’s another reason I love adventure riding… Once I saw the Tetons, my stomach just dropped.. I took some photos and just sat for a while looking at this incredible view.

We would get closer to these beauties in the morning, but it was time to find a camp spot.  Ken took off up the road to try to find us a spot for the night.. after gawking over the mountains we headed up further on Gros Ventre Rd towards a campground.  Traffic was stopped.. cars all on the side of the road.. ahh.. here’s what everyone is looking at..

A herd of buffalo had everyone taking photos and keeping their eye on this one buck that was running across the road.. to the woods and then back.  Almost as if he were trying to get the rest of the herd across the street.  Right before me and Pax took off he ran right in front of us, man them things would take you out! Stay clear of these dudes..

Up the road we caught up with Ken and there was a long line out of the ranger office.. Ken comes running out.. “I got the last site!”  We headed to our site and setup camp.. it wasn’t perfect but it would do.  No bear attacks this night either!

Our site at Gros Ventre Campground in the morning as we were gearing up to head out…

On our way out we just had to stop and look at the Tetons in the morning sun.. they are just awesome..

Panoramic view.. click to enlarge

Continuing north we decided since we were at the Teton National Park, we better take a ride through it.  Some things you gotta do at least once!  We stopped at the dam at Jackson Lake, this photo tells it all..

The riding today was amazing… from forest pine roads to mountain climbs.. take a look…

I believe these were along Grassy Lake Rd..Pax enjoying!

We came around the bend and could hear water rushing.. and rushing fast.. so me and Pax went to investigate.

More great riding…

we were headed to a warm water natural fish hatchery… it was a pretty neat operation.. and water was just crystal clear!! But first we were hungry.. we stop at Ashton, Idaho at this little diner.  It was a pretty neat place, waitress was nice, food was good..

and this pig didn’t bite Jeff..
