Highway Dirtbikes Top Clamp

January 6th, 2010 | Chassis, Electrical, WR250R

Paul from Highway Dirtbikes sent me this sneak peak photo of my top clamp.  He machined the clamp to fit a rocker switch I sent out to him, looks like it fits perfect!  Once I receive this top clamp, along with the bottom clamp and ProTaper EVO bars, I’ll be posting an installation/review post of my setup.

Looks good. How did you decide on the ProTaper EVOs? I have bent my stock bars quite nicely and am baffled by the choice of replacement bars.

Hey Chris.. I’ve had ProTaper’s on another bike of mine and really like them. Also got to get up close to a set of the Henry/Reed bend on another WR and like the feel. The bars are great, I highly recommend them, but I would make sure you take a look at the different bends offered. Let me know what you go with!

    Basher,
I just picked up an 04 DRZ400E the Saturday after Thanksgiving and have been e-mailing and talking with Paul about getting some new clamp, bars etc. I was wondering where your rocker switch came from? I am looking to do the same (for heated grips) on my bike. I told Paul I was barrowing your idea for the rocker switch, and power outlet. Also you seem very knowledgable about electrical things, so what are your thoughts about hot rodding a garage door opener to work off a HDB momentary switch mounted in the top clamp? Please let me know about that switch, and nice work on the install videos, thank you.
    Nick

Hey Nick.. Paul will definitely hook you up. He did a great job on my top clamp and since then many other’s have installed the same setup. So far, a year later it’s still works great. HDB setup and rocker switch.

You can pick up the switch from Dual-Star. My rocker switch came with the Symtec grip heaters I purchased from casporttouring.com.

Good luck on the install! I’ll have to look into the garage door install. I have an extra one laying around here so maybe I can rig it up… and let you know! Sounds like a good winter project .. :)
